4 Types Of Gamers And Learner Engagement

4 Types Of Gamers And Learner Engagement Engaging learners by introducing gaming into the educational process is the way of teaching that brings great results. It is innovative and effective, and it can become very useful for those who are trying to succeed in an educational field. However, one must know that the different type of gamer requires a different approach. As a result of the study, Dr. Richard Bartle came out with 4 types of gamers. Knowing this classification can help adapt the learning process to maximize the outcome. Achievers The first and foremost thing for this type of gamers is a result. There are different reasons why people play games, but achievers see only two options in the game – you either win or you lose. They also need sharing their success with others. This works as a motivation for bigger achievements, so displaying of their trophies is vitally important to them. In the learning field, similarly to the gaming world, achievers must be challenged continuously. However, most importantly, they need to be gratified for their progress. Creating a badge system will make it very likely that the achiever will return to your educational platform for a new portion of exciting experience brought by the sense of winning and appraisal. Explorers If achievers are focused on the result, explorers make an emphasis on the process. They can be identified by such feature as a curiosity to discover as many interesting facts as possible. Explorers do not get fixated on the idea of winning or losing. They prefer to concentrate their attention and efforts on the discovery process. While learning, such type of gamers would prefer not to rush to be better than anyone else. They will choose to study the material at their own pace and experience their journey to the fullest by getting new knowledge without trying hard to get the excellence badge. Obviously, it is still necessary to keep a track of their progress and provide with the information in terms of explorer’s accomplishments. Socializers Social interaction is an important aspect of gaming. There are gamers who are comfortable to explore the game world on their own, but there are those who prefer collaboration as opposed to sole playing. They feel the need to share their successes and, most importantly, discuss all the issues that they faced in the process. Knowledge of gaming socializers’ habits in a learning world can be very useful. The key is in the sharing of the experience, thoughts, and complaints. All this will work as a suggestion of what to work on in order to improve your learning platform. Creating an informal learning community may help your learners get a deeper knowledge of the subject and make your learning platform successful. Killers Killers in a game world are a specific type of competitors. They are more ruthless than any others, which, naturally, very often gives them an advantage. They want to win at all cost – and it does mean at all cost. They can hack the hackers and they don’t care who they will trample along the way. Killers can have a huge drive which can be used to bring great results in an educational process. Their force is immense, and if it is used on a gamified learning platform, it can overshadow any traditional training approach. We highlighted 4 main types of gamers’ features which can be used to enhance the educational process. Many game players can combine even all 4 types that we described, but understanding them can bring success to your learning platform as well as to your learners.

The Origin of the Sucker

The Origin of the Sucker Free Online Research Papers How may licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop you ask? Who knows. This statement is a usless advertising campaign because it will take different amount of licks per person. Some people have huge tounges, some people have midge tounges, some people have extra saliva which helps to dissinegrate candy coated chocolate better, and some people (like your boyfriend for instance) have dry mouths which will almost double the amount of licks needed. Then we have the small fact that each sucker has 60 grams of calories and 10 grams of sugar. Is it really worth having your tongue cramp up just to become fat? Some people may not realize that just because you are exercising your tongue, it will not work off the fat gained by eating this sucker. Also, everybody knows of the big hunk of tootsie roll in the middle, which will, along with the candy coated outside, rot your teeth out. Tootsie Pops are not the only unhelthy sucker out there, there are also those called Blow Pops. What kind of person names a food that you put in your mouth in and out a Blow pop? This name will lead to sexual promiscuity. This is not good for the simple fact that it reaches out to young children. That is why there are so many teenage pregnancies. A girl walks into a gas station and purchases a sucker. She walks outside sees a man twice her age, puts the sucker in her mouth and withdraws it. In and out, in and out, the man sees her and takes her home where he recieves sexual pleasures and in return knocks this girl up because he did not withdraw his sucker. Besides that, the gum inside becomes stale within about a minute of chewing it. It becomes just a headache, but people just tend to purchase them to shut their kid up. What they do not understand is that by purchasing this cheap snack for their child, they are setting themselves up for a large dentistry bill. Suckers are not a healty or fun choice of a snack. Their is absolutely no sense in people these days to eat or lick, or even blow suckers. Suckers should be banned throughout the world and dentist will become the poor losers they really are inside. Affirmative Action Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Affirmative Action - Essay Example The phrase â€Å"affirmative action† was introduced by Executive Order 10925. EO 10925 was issued by U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1961, which urged employers to actively adopt policies and safeguards against discriminatory practices in their workplace. Four years after, EO 11246 made it mandatory for federal contractors and subcontractors to: (1) identify underutilized minorities, (2) assess availability of minorities, and if available, (3) to set goals and timetables to fill vacancies with minorities with the aim of reducing such underutilization. In 1967, EO 11375 extended the benefits of AA to women. The further expansion of the application of AA was made possible by the U.S. Supreme Court when it promulgated the Bakke decision. In this case the Court was asked to rule whether or not it was unconstitutional for universities to give preference for blacks and minorities in admitting applicants for placement, because it violated the doctrine of â€Å"equal protections of the laws.† The Court ruled that â€Å"racial preferences are permissible if their purpose is to improve racial diversity among students, and if they do not stipulate fixed minority quotas but take race into account as one factor among many (Dworkin, 79). Today, AA is more widely observed, but as employment prospects and educational placements become more competitive, more people are raising questions about the propriety and fairness of AA. In defense of affirmative action According to the study by Bowen & Bok (cited by Dworkin, 79), the success of racial integration is attributable to AA in education, because it has enabled a higher rate of graduation among African American students, which led to more African American leaders in industry, professionals, community leaders, and subsequently a more sustained interaction and lasting friendships among the races than would have been otherwise expected. The benefits of AA are not in themselves the moral argument; the argument is th at where for past centuries racial minorities have been constrained to live in conditions of extreme social and economic disadvantage, it is but right that AA provide for them now an advantage over the majority to make up for the adverse conditions they have been subjected to. The implications are more than merely symbolic, and the effects referred to are more than just economic. Present-day descendants of slaves and people of color start life from a position of disadvantage in institutionalized society as a result of the limitations imposed on their ancestors. This is known as the â€Å"stigma theory† (Soni, 581). Parents denied an education because of their race will provide little inspiration for their children to conceive of and aspire for such education. The moral precept that all people are created equal, to be applied with effect, refers to enabling individuals be perceived and regarded the respect of equals. AA not only provides reparation for the past, but more pragm atically speeds up the slow process of transforming social perception. An African American, or woman, or a person with a disability, are persons who, in aspiring for the opportunities provided by the equality clause, struggle under the weight of social perception which, while not discriminatory per se, tends to manifest in subtle ways of stereotyping that renders the â€Å"equality† superficial. In this manner, AA provides an active catalyst to accelerate the social transformation to true equality. Critique of affirmative action Detractors of AA point out that the policy has been implemented by positive and aggressive action â€Å"
